Watkins Glen International, nicknamed "The Glen", is a road course located near Watkins Glen, New York, at the southern tip of Seneca Lake. The circuit has a long history, first being used as a circuit in 1948, however the first permanent circuit was not built until 1956. The circuit hosted the United States Formula 1 Grand Prix for the next 20 years, and in that time the circuit also expanded. After Formula 1 left, the circuit fell into a state of disrepair, and took until 1984 to reopened with new owners. The only major changes to the layout of the track took place in 1992. It saw a major reconfiguration of The Glen's back straight and the addition of the Inner Loop. By adding this, it increased the length of the long course to the current length of 3.4 miles.
