Shenington Kart Club is one of the oldest karting venues in the UK. The circuit, located near Banbury in Oxfordshire, started its life in 1959 as Banbury Kart Club and the circuit used formed part of Shenington (Edgehill) airfield. Thousands of spectators attended the early meetings at the circuit as the sport really started to take off. By 1962, Shenington was holding World Karting Championships events which was a true testament to how popular the venue was. Unfortunately the circuit went through some difficult times due to lack of finances and it wasn’t until the late 1980s that the circuit looked back on track to regain its former reputation. Following a large overhaul of the facilities in the preceeding years, the circuit re-established itself as one of the best British Championships venues. Shenington has been raced at by many great drivers including the likes of Nigel Mansell, David Coulthard, Jenson Button and Anthony Davidson, and it has held every type of Karting event over the years. The circuit continues to hold events at the highest level in the UK such as Super 1 Championship events, and looks set to maintain its reputation going forward.
