Phoenix International Raceway (PIR) is a 1 mile oval located in Arizona, USA. Opening in 1964, the track replaced the old Arizona fairgrounds circuit as the main track in the area. Indycar and Nascar visit have visited the circuit on a yearly basis. The track is a bit different to most ovals, with a kink in between turns 3 and 4. This was due to the hills surrounding the circuit, and the track hasn’t changed since. In 2004 the circuit added some floodlights, which were a resounding success. One of the best places to watch is on the hillside, just outside of turn 4, with thousands of people the atmosphere is brilliant!
