Pembrey race track is a hidden gem in the Welsh countryside located in West Wales near the coastline. The circuit was constructed in the late 1980s and the first race was held in May 1989. Early in its life the circuit held some of the largest British motorsport events including British Touring Cars and Formula 3 however more recently it has been forced to run as a test facility due to the inability to develop the facilities to meet modern circuit requirements. Despite this setback the circuit has gained the reputation of being a brilliant testing facility. This is mainly due to the unordinarily great mixture of corners that tests every aspect of a race car. Most drivers that have driven this circuit share the same opinion that that whilst the lap is short, it is extremely challenging yet very exciting to drive. Over the years, Formula 1 teams such as Mclaren, Benetton, Williams, Arrows and Jordan have tested here with the likes of Senna and Prost being a number of the greats that have mastered this circuit. In the latter years, the circuit has been redeveloped to include a new pit complex, a track extension and a spectator bridge which may be the first signs of an international revival for this fantastic circuit.
