The San Carlos circuit was opened in 1970 and since then has held national and international events for both motorcycles and cars. This included the world motorcycling championships between 1972 and 1979 and Formula 1 races. Other important events include the World Championship Formula 750, the Grand Prix Motorcycling Venezuela. The circuit is renowned for being one of the fastest circuits in South America and currently hosts national events including Formula Ford 2000, Formula Ford 1600, Formula Junior GT - National Mechanics and the National Karting Championships.
