Castle Combe Circuit

Castle Combe is a permanent race track located near Chippenham, England. Opening as a race track in 1950, the airfield which is was located on continued to operate, so racing could only take place on certain days.¬† The track itself is a high speed circuit, involving a lot of high speed corners. The track was however altered to slow it down slightly, this was in the winter of 1998-1999 as a result of a serious accident. The result meant two chicanes were added, and this is the track we know today. Over the years the track has hosted several large events, and has hosted rounds of the British Formula 3 Championship, however these no longer take place. Due to being located very closely to a small village, they have been given a noise nuisance order, which means they can only hold a small number of events each year. It’s still used for smaller club meetings and track days, but they have to comply with the noise regulations so the meetings are generally smaller. It’s one of the fastest tracks in the UK, and is a real thrill to drive; the one warning we would have is to stay out of the run off areas – they aren’t very big and a metal fence can be found at the end!
